The Yokoyama Memorial Manga Museum opend April 7, 2002,
in memory of Yokoyama Ryuichi, a genius cartoonist and Honorary
Citizen of Kochi City, who became the first Japanese cartoonist
to be recognized as a Person of Cultural Merit.
Drawing on invaluable material donated by Yokoyama himself,
the aim of this museum is to showcase his life, his works,
and his zestful, boyish spirit. In addition, this museum seeks
to recognize the works of the cartoonsists of Tosa ("The
Manga Kingdom") , to help grow people through manga,
and to pass along the culture of manga so that future generations
can develop it further.
